New job @ Coveo!

After a lengthy interview process, I’ve landed a job at Coveo! From applying to getting the job, the process took a little less than a month. As I mentioned in my previous post, I started with a phone interview and then moved on to a live interview with logic puzzles, personality and aptitude tests and then a coding challenge.

I had applied for a specific offer initially but the the first coding challenge and subsequent interview correctly and fairly identified my skill level when it came to the requirements of that particular job. I don’t think that I overestimated my abilities but rather underestimated the task at hand.

Luckily the research and development team were extremely friendly and although I was not quite ready for that specific job, they seemed to think the fit was right for the company and offered me a shot at another challenge.

The task consisted of creating a webpage which tracks a specific hashtag on twitter, feeds the tweets into a javascript chatbot and reads the response out loud. For the task I used a combination of Node.js, Express, and Twit. I also quickly tried the Materialize CSS framework for the first time and it was a great experience.

My current skillset was better reflected by this task and I ended up acing the project (imo) and had a really great interview afterwards. I’m starting on June 13th (or maybe June 20th depending on the IT department preparing my work laptop) and I’m super excited to give it 110% and soak up every little bit knowledge I can get my hands on. Being surrounded by passionate people will hopefully allow me to acquire skills faster than ever before.
